Character: Torunn (Daughter of Thor)
Character Journal: [personal profile] gramwielder (IC blog)
Characters Age: 15
Hero or Villain: Hero
Series of Origin: The Next Avengers (AU)
Universe of Origin: Marvel animated movie
Personality: Torunn is a girl of many facets. Toward her Midgardian family she is warm hearted and protective. She may bicker with her Mortal siblings but she will defend them to her last breath. Her attitude towards her Family can be very different though. She harbors much pain and resentment toward her Mother and Father, who left her on MIdgard as an infant. However she is extremely fond of her Uncle; Loki as he has taken great pains to cultivate a good relationship with his Neice. For people she's meeting for the first time much of her attitude will be determined by how they present themselves. She is quick to befriend people who are nice to her however if she is threatened Torunn will not back down from a fight. Despite her feelings toward her Father the young woman is actually pround of her Asgardian heritage. Overall though Torunn is brave, loyal, kind, and protective. Possessed of a noble spirit and the desire to help the weak whenever possible.

Background: Torunn is the daughter of Thor and Sif. She was taken to safety by Tony Stark alongside the other children of the Avengers to keep them all safe from Ultron. Torunn, along with her other siblings, only knew of the Avengers through Tony's tales of their former glory days. She could often times be both arrogant and prideful. Thors (alleged) goal in leaving her behind was for her to become humble through the learning of and coping with her mortality; however being an infant like the others all she knew was that her mother and father had abandoned her on Midgard and returned to their homeland. With no contact from them she could only look at her friends and compare the sacrifice that their parents had made to keep them safe with the apparent abandonment she'd suffered. And while she did grow humble toward her friends Torunn despaired at her family and a deep anger toward her father grew within her.

Meanwhile there was one Asgardian who would not let the young woman grow up without knowing at least some of her Family. Torunn's Uncle Loki visited her often and sent her messages. Cultivating a kinship with her though more likely than not for his own ulterior motives. Over the years she came to see him as a beloved Uncle and the only member of her Family she could have respect for. This situation continued for 13 years, with no contact from either Mother or Father. In that time Torunn became a skilled swordswoman. The only time she felt she could appreciate her Mother and Father being when she looked upon the blade they had left with her. A sword she learned from Loki was called Gram.

After 13 years of mostly stagnant peaceful living in their hiding place; the Vision arrived, battered and beaten nearly to death from an assault by Ultron. Torunn and her siblings beacme curious about what had happened and followed Tony. Who unknowingly revealed a secret entrance to a repair bay under their parent's grave markers. With James and the others Torunn found the Iron Avengers (Iron Man-based robots tuned after each fallen Avenger). James accidentally activated the robots and their automatic programming sent them to intercept Ultron. However the Iron Avengers attack failed and they were assimilated by Ultron instead. Because of this Ultron was able to find Tony's secret base. They escaped with Vision's head, which informed them that the shuttle was predestined for a safety zone (the Savage Land). None of them enjoyed the idea of leaving Tony to fend for himself against Ultron so the children found a means to redirect the shuttle to Ultron's citadel for a counteroffensive.

The attack was ill-planned and doomed almost from it's conception, however Torunn tried to rescue Tony during the groups first confrontation. Failing, they escaped with the help Francis Barton; but at the cost of leaving her sword behind. Toruun and her siblings followed Francis, learning along the way that he was the surviving son of the original Hawkeye and Mockingbird. As they reached to the remains of NYC's Grand Central Station, the young Avengers sought Francis' help to rescue Tony. Francis believed Tony was good for dead, but Betty Ross (now an old woman) approaches them and suggests that Tony was very much alive. The news renewed their hopes of rescuing him. In light of that, James attempted to recruit Francis to rescue Tony. Despite his attempts to flirt with Torunn and raise James' jealousy Francis refuses. Feeling that he should remain with the refugees and protect them instead. Even so; he gave the young Avengers instructions on how to reach Ultron's lair.

Torunn and the others successfully infiltrated Ultron's lair finding Ultron's private collection of items belonging to the fallen heroes that challenged him, including a trophy room of the fallen Avengers. While the other children lingered on the reminders of their fallen parents, Torunn's fist clenched in anger as she thought of her parents; still alive somewhere in Asgard. Her building rage was swept away though when their eyes all fell upon a display containing Iron Man's armor. The children were saddened seeing the remains there, which suggested that Tony had fallen. Their time to mourn was short however as the room began to transform. Ultron revealed himself along with a still-alive Tony Stark.

Ultron started to warn the Avengers of their impending doom. But he was interrupted by Francis and his Savengers, who showed up to distract Ultron along with the other young Avengers long enough to rescue Tony. Ultron commanded his robots to search and destroy them, but Torunn and the others managed to escape to safety, hiding out in an abandoned theater. There Tony explained to Torunn and her Midgardian siblings Ultron's origins and the fall of the Avengers. Betty Ross, who was also present at the theater; made mention of the Hulk. Who was still-alive and hiding in safety. Upon learning that the Hulk was in fact still alive Torunn and the rest of the group decided to venture into the desert in an abandoned robot transport in hopes of finding and enlisting Bruce Banner/Hulk. Unfortunately once they locate the man, Banner told them he did not want to become Hulk again.

At this point, after everything they had gone through; Torunn became despondent. She fled the group, feeling the need to be alone with her thoughts. Sitting alone and feeling desperate and vulnerable, she called upon her father to help her protect her friends. When she recieves a response; Loki is the one who comes to her rather than Thor. He describes to her that she can summon her sword to her hand just as Thor can summon Mjolnir. Torunn was about to ask him a question but she never got the chance as they were interrupted by the sounds of battle. Running back to her siblings she finds them under attack from Ultrons forces. Even without her sword Torunn rushes to the aid of her Midgardian family and while desperately trying to fend the Iron Avengers off she reaches out for her Sword, concentrating as her Uncle had told her to. Moments later, her sword returns to her, traveling all the way from Ultron's city to reach her outstretched hand.

Meanwhile the other young Avengers managed to get Ultron's attention, who quickly headed toward their location. Torunn was filled with renewed confidence and readied for the battle alongside her adopted family. She went after her father's robotic double with a vengeance, destroying it utterly. Nevertheless Ultron proved to be a much greater challange. One she found she could not overcome at her current level of power (she was after all; only 13). Instead; due to his fear of the situation and with some timely assitance from Pym (in the form of taunts and energy zaps), Bruce became the Hulk again. He defeated Ultron, breaking him in half.

Tony brought the children to him and explained that they didn't have much time because Ultron was self repairing and would soon put his broken body back together. Realizing there was only one solution to this problem Torunn too the two halves of Ultron and took off; flying out into the vaccuum of space where she hurled the halves in two different directions so they could not reunite. Not having the ability to breath in space though Torunn began to suffocate and freeze. On the brink of death, her father finally appeared to her. Standing on the Bifrost Bridge. Thor explained that he left her on earth in order for her to learn the same lesson he had to learn in humility so that she would not grow to be as arrogant as he was in his own youth.

He offered Torunn a chance to come live with him in Asgard but she angrilly refused. She rebuffed him for leaving an infant to learn a lesson before she could even speak. And questioned his logic in never speaking a word to her for 13 years, finally telling him that the real lesson she'd recieved was that of never knowing the loving touch of her Mother and Fathers arms around her. Of never having them to comfort her when she was afraid and alone. And railed agast the idea that even now her Mother was no where to be seen. She lifted her sword at one point as if to throw the weapon away. In the end though she found she could not bear to part with the blade. With bitter tears sliding down her cheeks Torunn told Thor that her siblings still needed her. As if seeing the pain he'd caused for the first time, Thor nodded his agreement and hugged his Daughter. With this sudden apology Torunn's anger lessened slightly. And Thor once again apologized before returning Torrun to earth clad in a new set of Asgardian armor.

Despite their best efforts Ultron was able to return and attempt to retake the planet. Hulk (now with Banner's intellect) decided to send Kang back in time to alert the Avengers of the past and bring them to the future, but Kang lied to them telling the team that their children were the cause of the danger. Nevertheless the Avengers managed to reach the future, where they met the Next Avengers along with Hulk, Tony and Spider-Girl. With some effort Tony manages to convince the team that Kang lied to them and tells them the truth. He explains that due to the final shadown between Ultron and Kang's foces, Kang causes the timeline to break, making them live in the same day forever.

Because of this anomaly the Avengers were returned to their present. But they retained their memories from the future and were determined to do something to help. Traveling back into the future they attempted to warn Ultron of the danger should he win the conflict. Ultron however was unconvinced and told the Avengers that he inteded to win regardless. Once again they are returned to the past. Surprisingly though as he was about to fight Kang, Ultron realized the importance of reality and chose to throw the fight and lose thus returning the time stream to it's correct flow. Because of this Kang (now as Immortus), was able to make his move; killing Hulk and Tony. The young Avengers (appropriately) avenged them by battling and killing Immortus.

Sexuality: Straight

Powers and/or Special Skills:

Asgardian/Elder God Hybrid Physiology: Because she is the daughter of Thor and Sif, Torunn is biologically mostly-Asgardian. However she is part-Elder God from Thors lineage. And so Torunn possesses a number of superhuman attributes common among the Asgardian and other gods. However, due to her unique herritage some are considerably more developed than those of the vast majority of her race. Torunn's skin, muscle, and bone tissues have several times the density of the same tissues in the body of a human being, contributing to her superhuman weight. She is invulnerable to powerful energy blasts, weighted impacts, falls from great heights, explosions and various other opposing forces. Even without her godly power as she matures Torunn is still likely to grow to become one of the strongest and most durable of all the Asgardians.

Life-Force: also known as the God-Force. The godly energies that fuel all of Thor's (and therefore Torunn's) godlike powers. Torunn's immortal life-force is likely more powerful than the mystical properties of her sword; Gram. Her Life-force allows her to be one of the most powerful beings on the planet (with the possible exception of the Hulk as she is still an adolescant) and she may one day become one of the most powerful beings in the universe. Unlike many other deities, Torunn's unique Life-force allows her to have full access to all of her powers regardless of what realm she enters.

Superhuman Strength: In addition to being the God of Thunder, Torunn's Father is also the Asgardian God of Strength. As his Daughter Torunn is physically one of the strongest of the Asgardian gods and will one day be counted among the most powerful beings in the Universe. Her strength may be unlimited like her Father's, though this has yet to be shown. Thor possesses a magical belt that doubles his natural strength and he may or may not have created a replica of the item for Torunns Asgardian Armor. Torunn may also be capable of entering into a state of Berserker Rage known as Warrior's Madness, as her Father is able to. This would temporarily increase her strength and stamina tenfold. Like Thor she would only do so in desperate situations because the condition threatens the sanity of the user.

Godlike Invulnerability: Being a god whose heritage is of both Asgardian and Elder God affords Torunn absolute invulnerability and immunity to such human ailments as diseases, toxins, poisons, corrosives, fire, electrocution, asphyxiation, lead, and radiation poisoning. Although some of these resistences have not yet surfaced in Torunn (likely due to her having yet to reach adulthood) as shown by the fact that she nearly died in the vaccuum of space after Ultron's initial defeat. Torunn could (when she is older) drink mead all day long and not get drunk. She has withstood direct blows from beings with superhuman strength such as Ultrons forces in Ultra city, the Iron Avengers, and (to a lesser extent) Ultron itself.

Superhuman Speed: Torunn can move at extreme speeds. She could theoretically throw her sword Gram at the speed of light just as her Father can Mjolnir. Or swing Gram at double the speed of light. Like Thor's hammer; the speed of Torunn’s sword may transcend both Time and Space. Torunn can be as fast as the lightning she commands.

Superhuman Stamina: Torunn's advanced musculature is considerably more efficient than that of a human and most other Asgardians. Her muscles produce no fatigue toxins during physical activity compared to those of humans and most other members of her race. Her virtually inexhaustible stamina enables her to hold her breath for an undefined period of time (though she has to learn that she can first) and exert herself at peak capacity for months without tiring at all. While in the Warrior's Madness, Torunn's stamina would also increase tenfold.

Superhuman Senses: Torunn's superhuman sense's allow her to effortlessly see objects extremely far away. Her Father could see objects as far out as the edge of the Solar System, and as she matures she may also get this ability along with the ability to track objects traveling faster than light, and hear cries from the otherside of the planet.

Self Sustenance: When she took Ultron's remains into space; Torunn nearly died from exposure. However as she ages she may become capable of surviving unaided just as her Father and Mother are. In addition; her need for air, food, water, or sleep may actually be psychological rather than physical. A result of living with and being raised by humans.

Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite her astounding resistance, it is possible to injure Torunn. In the rare instances that she is injured, her body is capable of repairing damaged tissue with much greater speed and efficiency than the body of a human being and most other Asgardians (a notable exception being Thor himself). She can regenerate missing limbs or organs. However she may or may not be able to regenerate from decapitation (Personal Note: I'm not sure of the accuracy of Thor being able to come back from that either).

Superhuman Longevity: Torunn, like all other Asgardians, isn't immortal in the same sense of some other god pantheons. Torunn ages at a pace far, far slower than a human being; mortals' life spans are nothing more than a blink of her eyes. She will eventually live long enough to watch worlds die, and even witness suns explode throughout her long life. The consumption of the Golden Apples of the goddess Iddun is essential to an Asgardian maintaining their physical vigor but this is not likely to apply to Torunn. Torunn is also immune to the effects of all Earthly diseases and infections.

Transcend Dimensions: Because Torunn is a godess, her divinity and corporeal form can transcend dimensions and is not bound by the perceptible. (AU): When Loki visited her as she was growing up he attempted to explain many of these concepts, however she was still young and even now has yet to realize her full potential. (/AU)

Energy Manipulation: Thor has stated that he relies on the power of Mjolnir too often. Torunn seems to have developed this habit with her sword as well. Gram does afford powers and abilities that she would not normally have, but Gram is a tool, and Torunn has natural energy manipulation abilities without the Blade. Since she is still young there is time for her to learn to use her own abilities as well as those granted by the Sword.

Lightning: Torunn usually uses Gram to channel her storm abilities but she is capable of discharging lightning bolts from her hands. She can also summon lightning from the sky without Gram to strike where she commands.

Flight: Torunn can hover with the wind and fly whether or not Gram is with her. She frequently uses this ability to carry her non-flying siblings such as Azari or James.

All-Tongue: When Torunn speaks with the All-Tongue anyone who hears her will hear her speak their native language. (AU): Loki taught her to use this ability when he visited her as a child. However she has yet to have the opportunity to use it. (/AU)

Instant Teleportation: Because Sif is her mother Torunn has, by birthright; the power to transverse time and space, and travel faster than the speed of thought by piercing the fabrics of Infinity and travel to any destination she chooses. Sif can also use her enchanted sword to teleport herself to other dimensions beside Earth and Asgard. In time Torunn should be able to learn these abilities as well (should Sif ever contact her).

Weakness: Despite her godess-like invulnerability, Torunn is susceptible to the highest forms of magic. Only high level magical users of the likes of Odin, Zeus, Hades, Seth, etc... can effect her. She is also vulnerable to cosmic beings such as Galactus, the Beyonder, Ego the Living Planet, the Stranger, etc. She can be physically hurt by the strongest of beings such as the Hulk, the Sentry, Hercules, Red Hulk, Thanos, and the Silver Surfer.

Warriors' Madness: Also known as the Sin Unpardonable. Warrior's Madness is the most forbidden malady in Asgard by law of Odin. Any who fall under it must pay the penalty, and only the most bitter sacrifice can atone for it. Despite allowing the user to increase their strength and stamina tenfold, the condition threatens the users sanity. Symptoms include massive headaches, mentally erratic, savage, animalistic, uncontrollable behavior, and unreasoning.

Abilities:

Indomitable Will: Torunn has been shown to have a powerful force of will, so much so that she has been able to gain the self confidence needed to summon her sword to her from a great distance. And confront her Father when he finally appeared to her, questioning his excuses for allowing her to live on Midgard for 13 years without word or sign. Like her Father; Torunn does not back down from any foe, does not give in during a fight and is willing to lay down her own life in defense of others.

Master Combatant: Like Torunn's Mother Sif; Torunn is a formidable combatant and has recieved extensive training in unarmed combat and swordsmanship. Among Asgardians, her fighting ability is second only to her Father. Torunn is a superbly skilled warrior. She is very cunning and intuitive in battle and is also proficient in hand-to-hand combat. However she specializes in swordsmanship. Being a War Godess as well as a Thunder Godess allows Torunn to learn and master nearly all the martial arts of Midgard as well. When she is older this will give Torunn a huge advantage in combat by tapping into a vast multicultural perspective of combat arts, skills, strategies and tactics.

Strength level: Currently Torunn is at Class 50; She is stronger than the average Asgardian woman, and is able to lift 30 tons effortlessly.

After reaching Adulthood Torunn will reach Class 100+. Torunn possesses the same potential for physical strength as her Father. She will eventually be able to lift in excess of 100 tons effortlessly. Torunn will eventually be one of the strongest beings to ever walk the Earth. Torunn could become physically stronger than a calm Hulk; and eventually she may be one of very few beings capable of overpowering or even killing the Hulk.

The Asgardian Sword Gram: Torunn wields Gram, a Sword forged from Uru metal, whose chief properties are durability, the ability to maintain enchantment, and absorb energies. Gram is an impressive broadsword. Gram itself is already as if not more durable than the Earth metal Adamantium or the Olympian metal Adamantine, and combined with the various enchantments placed upon it by Odin, is for all intents and purposes, indestructible. The sword can survive heat as extreme as the heart of the Sun, blasts powerful enough to destroy planets, and may be able to contain energy sufficient enough to destroy an entire Galaxy.

Torunn often uses the sword as a physical weapon, with almost nothing being capable of withstanding the power of the sword. Gram also grants Torunn mystical attributes and powers such as manipulation of the fundamental forces of the universe such as the electromagnetic spectrum. A few other examples of the abilities Torunn posesses with Gram are:

Worthiness Enchantment: This enchantment surrounding Gram prevents it from being wielded by anyone save those who have been found worthy. Thus far this only includes Torunn, however her Father is likely Worthy as well (considering who he is). To anyone else, Gram cannot be lifted from the ground nor wrested from Torunn’s grip. Those who are deemed worthy are abled to wield Torunn's powers. As the true master of Gram, Torunn can also will unto others the ability to wield the mystical sword, bypassing the worthiness enchantment, and also empower them with her own godly abilities. As long as Torunn is alive, no one but herself is able to wield the sword otherwise.

Mystical Link: Gram obeys Torunn’s commands as though it were alive, and if Torunn’s will is strong enough, the sword can pass through nearly any barrier to reach her should she so choose; Gram will even carve its way through the very center of entire planets to get back to Torunn.

Weather Control: Wielding Gram grants Torunn the ability to control the base elements of a storm, i.e. rain, wind, thunder, lightning and more. She may be able to create giant raging electrical storms complete with thunder, lightning, hurricane-force winds, tornadoes, blizzards, tidal waves, just as her Father can. She can also create many of these phenomena individually. Another aspect of this power allows her to stop any of these weather conditions as well. Torunn's ability to control and create storms extends to any and all storms. Possibly even temporal storms in time, Solar Flares, powerful stellar winds in space and so on.

Flight: Torunn is capable of hurling Gram with great force and, by holding onto the leather thong, is capable of flying through the air at tremendous speeds. While in an Earth-like atmosphere, Torunn can fly at roughly the Speed of Sound, roughly 770 miles per hour. Torunn can fly so fast that she is invisible to the naked eye. She can perform complicated maneuvers in the air and change course in mid-flight at the speed of thought.

Energy Projection: With Gram, Torunn can project powerful mystical blasts of energy. She can even channel energies for stronger energy attacks.

Energy Sensing: Gram can detect many different types of energy. It reacts particularly strongly to evil psychic energy, and supernatual energy. Gram can also track down the energy patern of someone in hiding, detect any Asgardians aura by their electrons discharge, and can sense and track the energy radiating from mystical objects.

Energy Absorption and Redirection: Torunn is able to use Gram to absorb any energy blasts directed towards her as means of attack. Once the energy is absorbed, Torunn can amplify and redirect it back towards the source and/or use it as a weapon of her own. She can also absorb ambient energy or energy that is not being used to attack; as evidenced when she absorbed Azari's charge as he was attempting to block her and the other children from following Tony Stark down into his secret work station below the Avengers memorial.

Teleportation: An inherited ability from her Mother Sif, Torunn's sword was enchanted by Thor to enable her to cleave passageways between dimensions, primarily between Asgard and Earth, by a special pattern of swinging motions. Torunn has not yet learned the special technique required for this however.

Interdimensional Messaging: Torunn can used Gram to send psychic messages between the nine realms. This is how she attempted to contact her Father for many years without response. (AU): This is also the way that she and her Uncle Loki were able to keep in contact with each other over the years. (/AU)

Undead Lethality: As a former religious relic, Gram is lethal to undead.

Immunity to Other Forces: Even without activating the powers of Gram, Torunn's sword; enchanted by Odin, is impervious to nearly all forms of change. No power in the universe but the All-Father's can affect Gram.

Current Location: Midgard

Anything else we should know? Very little is actually shown of Torunn's abilities or the abilities of her sword in Canon and the wiki entry only gives the barest description of the Worthiness enchantment and Sentient Weapon aspects that were shown. So much of the powers and abilities section was taken from Thor and Sif's wiki entries which are filled out a bit better. The sword is never named in Canon either so I have taken the liberty of looking up Norse Legendary Swords and choosing the most likely candidate for this character.

This is an AU adaptation of the character though the background keeps much of her canon history in tact. Her canon background can be found here.

Her name means; "Loved by Thor" (according to wikipedia).
